Buildings
There is a sense of security derived from having a place of one’s own. Ideally, within our own spaces, we may seek clarity of thought and find respite from multitudes of issues. I created these images of buildings to convey both the uncertainty of the human experience, while offering an age-old means of escape and shelter from the elements and others.
In these paintings, I have focused on the formal elements of composition, color harmony and contrast. The goal of each painting is to evoke a primal feeling with minimal use of detail. To sharpen the message, I chose a contemporary palette and a folk/pop art style, and draw inspiration from much-admired artists such as David Hockney, Alex Katz, Etel Adnan, Joseph Albers, Giorgio Morandi, Jonas Wood, and Mitchell Johnson.
